Neurology within Society

The Overarching Theme for the EAN Congress 2025 “Neurology within Society” in Helsinki explores the multifaceted relationship between neurology and society.

The theme covers a range of important topics such as the distinction between neurodegeneration and normal aging; economic challenges in European neurology; societal perceptions of neurological disorders; regional variations in neurological management; the impact of modern environmental changes on cognitive functions and dementia development; and the integration of neuroscience techniques into social sciences to address contemporary challenges in learning, economics, and societal emergencies.

Combined, these topics comprise an Overarching Theme that offers insights into the connections between neurology, society, and environmental factors, spanning from the clinical intricacies of neurological disorders to the broader societal implications and the integration of neuroscience in addressing contemporary challenges. Also, it reflects the importance of brain health and of raising awareness among health care professionals on its connection to society.

This Overarching Theme will be the focus of many sessions to suit the interests of all neurologists, whether clinicians or scientists, general or specialised neurologists, from the younger to the more advanced generations.

EBC Activities at the Congress

EBC looks forward to being part of the congress again this year. We will hold a TV Studio Session Funding the Future of Brain Research in Europe: Towards a European Brain Health Partnership that will take place on 21 June 2025 at 11:30-12:30. This session will explore the goals and reasons behind the planned Partnership – and why it’s incredibly timely – as well as the expected impact (in terms of research investment, interventions and care), the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and how the EP BrainHealth will pave the way towards an overall (brain) healthier society.

For a TV Studio Special Session, EBC has furthermore been invited to speak on National Brain Plans & an EU Coordination Strategy’. Suzanne Dickson, EBC President, will be presenting on EU Coordination and the role of the European Brain Council. The session will be held on 21 June 2025 from 14:30-15:30.

EBC will also have a booth in the exhibition space “Neurohood” where you can learn more about the ongoing projects, campaigns and the upcoming events!
