Funding Opportunities

Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the next research and innovation framework programme of the European Commission. The Commission’s proposal for Horizon Europe is an ambitious €100 billion research and innovation programme to succeed Horizon 2020. Horizon Europe will incorporate research and innovation missions to increase the effectiveness of funding by pursuing clearly defined targets. Horizon Europe will support European partnerships with EU countries, the private sector, foundations and other stakeholders. The aim is to deliver on global challenges and industrial modernisation through concerted research and innovation efforts.

Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI)

The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) is working to improve health by speeding up the development of, and patient access to, innovative medicines, particularly in areas where there is an unmet medical or social need. This is done by facilitating collaboration between the key players involved in health research, including universities, research centres, the pharmaceutical and other industries, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), patient organisations, and medicines regulators. IMI is the world’s biggest public-private partnership (PPP) in the life sciences.

Networks

European Reference Network - Neurological diseases

The ERN-RND is a European Reference Network established by the EU to support patients and families affected by rare neurological diseases (RND) which requires much specialised knowledge, treatment and resources.

European Reference Network for Rare Neuromuscular Diseases - European Academy of Neurology

ERN-RND provides educational webinars on rare neurological and neuromuscular diseases – in collaboration with the European Reference Network for Rare Neuromuscular Diseases (EURO-NMD) and the European Academy of Neurology (EAN). The goal is to share knowledge on rare neurological, movement and neuromuscular disorders via a series of webinars presented by expert members of both networks.

The International Brain Initiative is represented by some of the world’s major brain research projects.  It was create to help in catalyzing and advancing ethical neuroscience research through international collaboration and knowledge sharing, by uniting diverse ambitions to expand scientific possibility, and disseminating discoveries for the benefit of humanity.

Human Brain Project

The Human Brain Project is building a research infrastructure to help advance neuroscience, medicine and computing. It is one of the two largest scientific projects ever funded by the European Union. The 10-year project began in 2013 and directly employs some 500 scientists at more than 100 universities, teaching hospitals and research centres across Europe.

EU Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research

The EU Joint Programme – Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) is the largest global research initiative aimed at tackling the challenge of neurodegenerative diseases. JPND aims to increase coordinated investment between participating countries in research aimed at finding causes, developing cures, and identifying appropriate ways to care for those with neurodegenerative diseases.

The ERA-NET NEURON supports basic, clinical and translational research in the diverse fields of disease-related neuroscience. Ministries and funding organisations across Europe, Israel, Turkey and Canada have joined forces to conquer diseases of the brain and the nervous system. The ERA-NET NEURON aims to support research directed at a better understanding of brain diseases and their progression in order to pave the way for new or improved routes for diagnosis and therapy.
